In a few days’ time, you’ll begin your university journey. This is also the beginning of adulthood for many. Are you ready? Here are 7 things to know before you step onto the campus!

1. Get in touch with course mates and lecturers on social media
To prepare yourself, look up social networks of student societies that you’re interested in. Start by joining in the conversations. This is a great way of getting to know your schoolmates before you’ve stepped onto campus.  Who knows, you may even find a fellow course mate or a fellow freshman who’s just as excited for school!
2. Be mentally prepared
It’s a huge transition to uni and it will not be easy. Learn to get comfortable with the uncomfortable and mentally prepare yourself. You will feel lost and intimidated, be it with navigating campus grounds, or getting used to new modules. But go in with an open mind and the willingness to learn. And you’ll learn more than you thought you would.
3. Be sure to attend Orientation
Typically held on the first week of the new semester, the orientation is a great opportunity to bond with your new çampus mates Sure, anxiety starts to creep in at the thought of being in a new environment with thousands of people you don’t know. But look at it this way – all freshmen are on the same boat. Plus, you’ll need support for the next few years of your uni life. Why not start here?
4. Get to know your lecturers
While they may seem intimidating, lecturers are really nice and may seem more like a friend than a teacher. They are there to help you and will give you extra tips. Don’t forget that lecturers are professionals from various industries as well. They could connect you to their networks, potentially opening more doors for your future career.
5. Plan your exam schedule wisely
At the start of each semester, the exam dates for every module will be released. Before selecting the modules, take a look at which days will have 2-3 exams in a day. Space out your exam dates.
6. The best study spots

Find study spots where you wouldn’t mind studying on your own. There are tons of excellent spots to study alone or in large groups. I guess it’s awesome that all universities have Instagrammable spots! Kill two birds with one stone and snap some Instagram-worthy photos during breaks.
7. Use your first semester as a gauge
It’s only your first semester. Let it be the pilot semester for trials and errors. Be it about picking a certain number of modules, finding the best places to study, or revision hacks. For example, if taking four modules is too taxing for your first semester, try taking three modules or switch it to an elective. This is a great time to find what works for you.
Wishing you all the best for your first semester!
